Estonia will provide citizenship of the Dudaev family "For special merits"

The Dudaev family in the near future can move to Estonia. The Minister of Population of Estonia, Aarna Vedla, said that the Dudaevs submitted documents for Estonian citizenship to the Ministry and soon their request would be transferred to the government, the Delfi website reports.

Usually, the Estonian state gives citizenship for special merits once a year, on the eve of Christmas. Obviously, then Dudaevs will receive citizenship, ”writes Eesti Paevaleht. This year, first citizenship can be granted to a person who is constantly not living in Estonia. The corresponding changes were made to the law mainly just because of the Dudaevs.

Aarne Veadla specified that the widow of Johar Dudaev Alla and her children living in Vilnius and her children are petitioning about Estonian citizenship. The petition for the provision of Dudaev’s citizenship of Estonia for special merits was submitted on behalf of the Institute of Rights of Peoples by its director, a longtime friend of Dudaev, an orientalist, an employee of the University of Tartu, Linnart Mallem. The reason why the Estonian state should provide citizenship for special merits is the active participation of the Dudaevs in the work of the organization of unexpected peoples and the activities of the Institute of Rights of Peoples. “Of course, they also contributed to the development of Estonian -Chechen relations,” added Aarna Veudla.

Recall that the widow of the first president of Chechnya Johar Dudaev and his closest relatives, are currently living in Lithuania (Vilnius). For the first time they announced their desire to move to Estonia in October 2002.

In 2003, Alla Dudaeva again asked for Estonian citizenship, but she was denied legal reasons. According to the norms of the then law, the applicant had to permanently reside in Estonia. This year, amendments have been made to this law, allowing citizenship for special merits to persons who constantly do not live in Estonia.

Recall that Johar Dudaev in the late 80s served as the commander of the aviation division, which was based in the Estonian city of Tartu. He also held the post of head of the Tartu garrison. The later leader of the Chechen fighters Dudaev was killed on April 21, 1996, a rocket released from the Russian aircraft. The special services then announced that the destruction of the Chechen leader was a carefully planned operation.
