The talismans of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing will be renamed Friendlies to Fuwa, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the Chinese press with reference to the Organizing Committee of the Games "Beijing 2008", this is due to the fact that the former name "Friends" caused many complaints, being the subject of hot disputes from the date of its appearance. So, Dr. Lee from the University of Lanzhou was the first to criticize the names of “Maskots”, explaining his position by the fact that the word Friendlies means both people connected by friendly relations and comradely matches in sports, where the result is not fundamental. In addition, he also noted that the cone (consonant with the words) of the word Friendlies are “friendless” (not friends) and “Friend Lies” (friend is lying).
After that, Dr. Lee proposed three alternative options for the name of the 2008 games talismans, including Forworld, Forward and Forwords. According to the scientist, the first name is perfectly associated with the slogan "One World, One Dream" (one world, one dream). And foreign experts and Internet users approved the Forward name, since, firstly, it is suitable for value, and secondly, due to the harmonious pronunciation in Chinese-“Fuvazi”.
At the same time, the organizing committee rejected all three options by Doctor Lee, but in return came up with a new nickname to the talismans - “Fuva”. Symbolizing happiness, prosperity, health, luck and inspiration, the new name reflects the wish of the Chinese people around the world.
