bmi Airlines began regular flights to Domodedovo

The British company bmi, one of the largest air carriers in the UK, began operating regular passenger flights to Domodedovo International Airport on October 29, 2006. Flights from London Heathrow Airport to Moscow and back operate twice a day, the Domodedovo press service reports.

The flights are operated within the framework of a signed code-share agreement between bmi and the Russian Transaero. One daily flight is operated by bmi on an Airbus-320, the second by Transaero airlines on a Boeing-737.

Вmi became the twentieth foreign airline operating regular flights from Domodedovo. In addition, the British carrier became the fifth from the global Star Alliance to operate flights to this airport. In addition to bmi, flights to Domodedovo are operated by Swiss, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines and Span Air.

The airline bmi was founded in 1964 under the name British Midland Airways. In 2000, it joined the Star Alliance, and in 2003 it rebranded and changed its name to bmi. The company now operates about 170 flights daily to 37 destinations around the world.

Domodedovo is the largest Russian airport. At the end of 2005, the airport's passenger traffic amounted to 13.960 million passengers, which is 15.7% more than a year earlier.
