Pure populism

Windshield wipers and antiseptics are not the only liquids that poison unfortunate Russians. Ordinary tap water can also be life-threatening.

Yesterday, the Chairman of the State Duma, leader of the United Russia party, Boris Gryzlov, proposed approving another national project - "Clean Water". As checks have shown, “only 12% of the water coming through the pipes can be drunk, up to 15% cannot be drunk, in fact, this water is poison and poisons our citizens for 5-7 years,” Mr. Gryzlov said, speaking at a meeting of the Public Youth Chamber (WMC) under the State Duma.

The speaker of parliament reminded the young interlocutors that Russia has a huge supply of clean fresh water and is among the top ten countries in the world in terms of this indicator. However, he said, the state of the water supply networks is such that while the water reaches citizens’ apartments, it often turns into completely unfit for drinking; the maximum permissible concentration of harmful substances in such water exceeds the norm several times.
