A monument to Dmitry Likhachev was opened in St. Petersburg

The monument to Dmitry Likhachev was opened on Tuesday, on the day of the 100th anniversary of the birth of an academician, in his homeland in St. Petersburg.

The bronze bust of the first honorary citizen of the Northern capital and Honorary Doctor of St. Petersburg State University was made by the People's Artist of Russia by the sculptor Grigory Zhestrebenetsky, ITAR-TASS reports.

The bust has been installed on the alley of the glory of the university, in the audiences of which the scientist has played since 1993. Here he first read his famous work "The Declaration of Culture Rights." In it, Likhachev first formulated a new approach to determining the place of national cultural property in society.

On the Alley of Glory, the bust stands on a par with the sculptural images of Mikhail Anikushin, Andrei Petrov, George Sviridov and other honorary doctors of the university. According to the press service of the university, they did not limit themselves to the opening of a bust Dmitry Likhachev, but also created a "non-missed monument".

Students will be able to study the legacy of Dmitry Sergeyevich on the first scientific site about the academician in Russia - "Likhachev Square". It has more than a thousand publications of the scientist and hundreds of works about him.
