
The world's first residential skyscraper rotating on its axis will be built in Dubai. As British engineer Nick Cobber, who developed the project for the turning mechanism of the Times Residence tower, said today, the building will rotate at a speed of 5 millimeters per second. In one day, the house will slowly make a 52-degree turn, and in a week - a full turn, ITAR-TASS reports.
Interestingly, the tower will not be powered by electricity, but by solar energy.
Cobber is known as a "mechanical genius" and the author of complex engineering projects, including a giant bulldozer used to dig a tunnel under the English Channel, as well as the wing of a modification of a Boeing aircraft.
The engineer noted that the rotating mechanism of the Times Residence is so precise and perfect that the rotating skyscraper can serve as a huge sundial. For this purpose, a special dial will be built at the base of the tower.
