A judge of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation refused to initiate supervisory proceedings on the complaint of Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s defense against the verdict of the former head of the Yukos oil company. The defense asked to cancel Khodorkovsky's sentence as “illegal and unfounded.” Khodorkovsky's lawyer, Genrikh Padva, told reporters that after familiarizing himself with the judge's decision, the defense will decide on further appeal. In general, no one hoped for another solution, and it is not even very clear how necessary such attempts are.
