| Yesterday in the United States, exercises began under the code name “Vigilant Guardian 2007”, according to the scenario of which one of America’s conditional opponents in a nuclear war will be a certain country called Rubek. The press service of the Northern Command said in a statement that the exercises are being conducted jointly by the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the Northern Command (NORAD). They involve Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs Command, as well as units from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Canadian units stationed in the United States.
In October, Washington Post military columnist William Arkin described the scenario for the Vigilant Guardian 2007 exercise. According to him, Russia, Iran, North Korea and China are hidden under the fictitious names of the countries Rubek, Irmingham, Nimazi and Churya. However, Northern Command spokesman Michael Kacharek declined to give specific names of the fictitious countries that appear in the war game.
Similar exercises are held annually in the United States. According to the 2005 scenario, a crisis arose between Russia and the United States, which led to a nuclear strike on the United States. According to the scenario of last year’s exercises, Russia, having lost Ukraine, started a war against the United States.
This year, as tensions escalate over the country of Irmingham's desire to enrich uranium, the country of Rubeck is the first to launch a nuclear strike on major US military installations. The countries of Nimazi and Churya come out in defense of Irmingham.
