Yesterday, a closed meeting of the Six countries was held in Paris, at which the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, China, Great Britain, France, the United States and Germany once again tried to agree on a draft UN Security Council resolution on imposing sanctions against Iran. US Deputy Secretary of State Nicholas Burns said yesterday that Russia and China should be persuaded to agree with the point of view of the United States, Germany, Great Britain and France on introducing tough sanctions against Iran. Moscow previously agreed to support softer but targeted sanctions against Iran. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov considers the introduction of broad, tough sanctions an “irresponsible” step. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he would consider the imposition of sanctions as a hostile act, in which case Tehran would reconsider relations with Europe.
