Sergei Fedorov's teammates in Columbus scored five of the six goals against the Senators while realizing a numerical majority. Ottawa suffered its third defeat in a row, and the Blue Jackets extended their winning streak to four matches. Chicago signed a one-year contract with 38-year-old Slovakian Peter Bondra, who has been playing in the NHL since 1989. Peter spent most of his career with Washington, before the lockout he played for Ottawa, and last season in 60 games for Atlanta he scored 21 goals and made 19 assists. Bondra has not yet appeared on the ice in the current championship. He has just two goals left to reach the 500-goal mark in the league. The new Slovakian team, after three consecutive defeats in extra time, was finally able to win. Denis Arkhipov, a participant in two world championships as a member of the Russian national team, put an end to this match by hitting the empty goal of the Oilers five seconds before the siren.
Sacramento, after five unsuccessful games, finally won, but still remained in last place in the Pacific Division. The most productive player of the next game day was Lakers leader Kobe Bryant - 34 points, and the black basketball player managed to accurately shoot from long range four times. Bryant's teammate Lamar Odom was one assist short of a triple-double. He had 18 points and 11 rebounds. San Antonio's defeat allowed Utah to once again become the sole leader of the Western Conference.
Phoenix's tenth victory in a row. As part of Charlotte, the team's newcomer, 22-year-old forward Adam Morrison, continues to do something strange. In the last three games, he took 29 shots at the basket and hit the target only three times. Ilya TRISVIATSKY
Demchenko did not reach the end of the track
At the next stage of the Luge World Cup in Calgary (Canada), silver medalist of the Turin Olympics Albert Demchenko performed extremely poorly and was unable to complete the distance in the second attempt. During the first unsuccessful run, the handle that the athlete was holding on to Albert’s sled came off, but he, having shown only the 26th time, decided to go to the start again. As a result of such an unjustified risk, Demchenko crashed and was not even classified. Another extraordinary event of the stage was the participation of 53-year-old Venezuelan Werner Hoger in the races included in the Nations Cup standings (the second tier of the World Cup). The grandfather of world luge managed to complete the minimum program - not to take last place. The South American living in the USA was still ahead of the representative of Slovakia. The victory at the World Cup went to the German David Moller. Vladimir ILYIN
Godina continues to serve right through
Volleyball. Super League. Women . 1st round. "Dynamo" M -- "Avtodor-Metar" -- 3:0, "Zarechye-Odintsovo" -- "Leningradka" -- 3:2, "Dynamo-Yantar" -- "Balakovo NPP" -- 3:0, "Uralochka-NTMK" - "Stinol" - 3:1, "Tulitsa" - "Nugget" - 3:2, "Kazanochka" - CSKA - 0:3.
Before last weekend, “Nugget” and “Dynamo-Yantar” managed to play two matches postponed from other rounds and exchanged victories. Thanks to the success in the match with Balakovo NPP, the “blue and white” topped the standings in terms of points. Due to personnel problems, the coach of this team, Mikhail Omelchenko, was forced to make an unconventional move - he assigned the winner of the world championship gold, middle blocker Olga Zhitova, to the reception. The current national champions, Moscow Dynamo, even without Ekaterina Gamova (she had a fever), easily dealt with the debutant of high society from Chelyabinsk. The best server of the World Cup, Elena Godina, still causes trouble for her opponents when performing this game element - six (!) aces. American Patricia Arrington made her debut as part of Avtodor-Metara, but she did not show anything outstanding. Ilya TRISVIATSKY
Kaykan won bronze in super sprint
After the World Cup stage at the Olympic Ice Oval in Nagano, Asian speed walkers are leading in the standings of most sprint disciplines. In Japan, both men and women completed the 500 and 1000 m distances twice, and also competed in the 100-meter super sprint. The men's 500-meter race was won by Japan's Keishiro Nagashima and Korea's Kang Suk Lee. The Dutchman Jan Bos and the Finnish Peka Koskela became the best at the kilometer. Korean Sang Hwa Lee (500 m) won two gold medals, one top award each went to Chiara Simionato (Italy) and Canadian Shannon Rempel, who won the 1000 m distance. The super sprint was won by Japanese Yuya Okiawa and German Judith Hesse. The best among the Russians was Svetlana Kaykan - on the second day of the competition she took bronze in the 100-meter dash and sixth places in the other two sprint distances.
In speed skating, there is no overall World Cup classification; classification is carried out separately by discipline. The leaders in the fight for trophies are now: women - Sang Hwa Lee (100 and 500 m), Simionato (1000 m); men - Oikawa (100 m), Korean Kyu Hyuk Lee (1000 m) and Nagashima (500 m).
The next stage of the World Cup will take place on January 27-28 in Heerenveen (Holland). His program will completely coincide with the competition schedule in Nagano. Before the starts in the Land of Tulips, the strongest speed walkers of the Old World will have to participate in the European Championship, which will take place on January 12-14 in Italy, and the world championship in sprint all-around is planned for January 20-21 in Hamar (Norway).
