
A citizen of Belarus, a suspect of espionage, Sergei Monich will be extradited from Lithuania to Poland. According to RIA Novosti, the corresponding verdict issued the Vilnius District Court on Friday in the morning. Monich can appeal this decision within seven days.
At the same time, the court extended the measure of restraint for a month - if the appeal procedure begins, the issuance to Poland will be delayed.
Judge Linas Zhukauskas emphasized that the court did not discuss Monich’s guilt, but only the issue of extradition. “There is no reason to refuse Poland,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Belarusian consul Anatoly Pertovsky, refusing to comment on the court decision, at the same time said that lawyers would appeal. “We hope that the decision will be fair, in accordance with the law. We hope that the court from Poland will receive additional information related to the case of our citizen. I am convinced that lawyers are obliged to use the legal agreement signed between Lithuania and Belarus. If this agreement is not fulfilled, the cooperation agreement may be violated,” he said, adding that he could not be accused of a person who was never accused of in The country that is accused of espionage.
With the Polish citizen Krzyshtof Gursky, who was allegedly trying to recruit, the meetings took place in Prague, Belarus and Vilnius.
The Polish Prosecutor General’s Office states that the special services of her country have been following Monich for two years and have enough materials to charge him with espionage. He himself claims to be a victim of provocation by the Polish special services. Monich was detained in Vilnius on November 25, and is contained in the investigative insulator of the Lukish prison.
