Let us remind you that the voting was originally scheduled for Friday, December 22. However, according to Churkin, work on the text of the draft resolution has not yet been completed, and discussion of the document will take all of Friday.

The diplomat noted that, in general, the rapprochement of the parties’ positions on the text of the resolution continues. In particular, the document proposed on Wednesday no longer bans entry for a group of people associated with Iranian nuclear programs. The updated version, instead of a “ban,” calls on states to “exercise vigilance regarding the entry or permitting of transit” of persons involved in the development of nuclear programs.

According to European diplomats, this provision became an important compromise between the Western trio and Russia and China. As Vitaly Churkin added, 2-3 points of disagreement remained in the draft resolution. The so-called "six" countries - the USA, Great Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany - are taking part in the discussion.

The resolution involves imposing sanctions on the supply of equipment, technologies, and materials to Iran that can be used for the production of nuclear weapons and launch vehicles. The document also calls on official Tehran to respect the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and return to the negotiating table.
