Russia awarded the IOC official application for Sochi for holding games-2014

The Russian delegation was transferred on Monday to the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne the application of Sochi-2014. Recall that the Austrian Salzburg and the South Korean Pyeongchang are competitors for the game.

The VOC evaluative commission plans to visit all the candidate cities from mid-February to mid-April 2007. The official election of the city, which will accept the 2014 Winter Olympics, will be held in July this year in Guatemala. The application book "Sochi -2014" is a three -volume work in which all aspects of future games are worked out in detail - from the plan of sports facilities and traffic schemes to the description of the opening and closing ceremony.

As part of the preparation of Sochi for the 2014 Olympics, it is planned to build two Olympic villages. The Federal Target Program for the Development of Sochi provides for the allocation of 313.9 billion rubles for the construction of 200 kilometers of new roads and railways, as well as a modern airport terminal, taking four million passengers per year. In addition, the city authorities plan to double the number of hotel rooms of the category of 3-5 stars.

“I would really like the International Olympic Committee to choose our city. We have everything for this,” RIA Novosti quoted the mayor of Sochi Viktor Kolodyzhny.

In turn, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Director General of the Sochi -2014, remarked: “We have serious respected rivals. I believe that we must win because our main task is to come to the Russian land - to the Earth of the Great Sports Power.”

“Sochi’s victory will mean a huge impetus for the development of the Paralympic movement, a huge impetus in the development of the infrastructure of the individual region where people with disabilities will be able to engage in and prepare,” said Mikhail Terentyev, General Secretary of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

“The book is very strong, it meets all the requirements that the International Olympic Committee nominates. Honestly, I have not seen the book better,” the famous swimmer Alexander Popov emphasized, who came to Lausanne to support the Sochi's Babilic Committee. “Sochi has very high chances, so we need to use this chance and just not to miss it.”

The application committee transferred 100 copies of his application book to the headquarters of the IOC.
