In Germany, an accomplice of the performers of terrorist attacks on September 11 was sentenced to 15 years

The Moroccan, accused of involvement in the organization of terrorist attacks on September 11 in the United States, was sentenced in Germany to the maximum term of punishment - 15 years in prison. Such a verdict brought to Munir al-Motassadec on Monday the Supreme Land Court of Hamburg.

Since the court hearings on the merits of the case already held in November in the federal court, which found Motassadec guilty of all points of the prosecution, including in aiding the murder of 246 people, the current composition of the court only had to decide on the penalty.

The court satisfied the request of the prosecutor's office in making the maximum possible sentence, since, according to the investigation, the defendant knew that the hijackers of the aircraft were going to use them for terrorist attacks. Lawyers intend to appeal this decision.

The Moroccan Electron Student was arrested by German law enforcement agencies in November 2002 on suspicion of belonging to the Al-Qaeda cell, formed at the Hamburg Technical University, where he studied, as well as in direct ties with the Milot Millet Moshammed, RIA Novosti, RIA Novosti reports .

In February 2003, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison, found guilty of belonging to a terrorist group, financing a terrorist organization and involvement in the deaths of people during attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001.

However, on the complaint of lawyers in connection with violations of the rights of their client, the Federal Supreme Court abolished the verdict and sent the case to revise. In August 2005, during the re-trial of Al-Motassadec, he was sentenced to the new composition of the land court to seven years in prison, which did not consider the involvement of the defendant in the death of people.

This time, the verdict was protested simultaneously by lawyers (they found many procedural errors during the investigation) and the prosecutor’s office, which considered the seven -year punishment too soft.

On November 16, 2006, the federal court abolished all previous sentences, recognizing the Moroccans living in Germany guilty of all the charges in all articles, including at least 246 passengers of aircraft stolen by terrorists, a pilot of one of whom was his friend.

At a meeting of the Third Court, on January 8, the prosecutor demanded for the accused of 15 years in prison as "the only possible sentence for such a crime." In his opinion, the role of the defendant in the tragedy on September 11, 2006 "although it was not decisive, but still important."
