Initially, the union was created with the aim of bringing Shirak to power, but Sarkozy managed to turn the SND into a political machine working for it. In 2004, he became the leader of the party, and now he turned out to be its only candidate in the upcoming presidential election, the Air Force reports.

The figure of the current Minister of Internal Affairs and a potential presidential candidate causes ambiguous feelings not only in the ranks of the SND, but also in French society as a whole.

As the head of the internal political department, he proved himself a very tough leader who took an implacable position in relation to crime and illegal immigration, so that those who adhere to the right views, but not the centrists and not left -wing ones, will probably vote for him.

Sarkozy promises to reform the country and make the French work longer and more stubbornly, and this intention to many French people does not seem so attractive, despite the fact that they understand: the country can no longer ignore the challenge that gives it globalization, and continue to live beyond its means.
