Foreign Ministry of Russia: Kosovo status, first of all, should be acceptable for Protina and Belgrade

The decision on the status of Kosovo, who achieves his full independence, should arrange both the Kosovo leadership and the Serbian authorities. This was stated in Moscow by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports.

"Our position is determined not by what the status of Kosovo will be called and determined, which will be proposed by the special representative of the UN Secretary General, but how the parties will react to this proposal. The solution to the problem of Kosovo’s status should be balanced and should be solved only during negotiations and should arrange both the Kosovo leadership and Belgrade," Lavrov said. According to ITAR-TASS, at a meeting of the Russian Federation Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Titov and the special representative of the European Union on the status process in Kosovo by Stefan Lena, the Russian diplomat noted that Belgrade and Primetin should consistently search for an “effective negotiation solution” by Kosovo and continue this process without creating artificial temporary frames.

During the conversation, diplomats discussed the current aspects of regulation in Kosovo, maintaining stability and security in the region. The meeting “emphasized the need to build up efforts to fulfill the standards for national minorities determined by the international community, returning to the refugee land,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The solution to the problem of Kosovo is important for Transnistrian settlement

The presidents of Moldova and Romania at a meeting in Chisinau on Tuesday expressed the opinion that the solution to the Kosovo problem will have a positive impact on the settlement of the conflict in Transnistria, Interfax reports.

“The solution to the issue of the Kosovo Territory, albeit indirectly, can affect the solution of the Transnistrian issue. This is a test for an international community, the method of solving which is extremely important,” said Romania President Trajan Basescu after meeting journalists.

In his opinion, the Transnistrian issue must be resolved taking into account the three main conditions: "Compliance with the territorial integrity of Moldova, the inviolability of its borders and not the provision of collective rights to national minorities."
