The Chili team on tennis is a very serious rival for the Russian team in the 1/8 finals of the Davis Cup. This was stated by Russian tennis player Marat Safin upon arrival at Santiago Airport. He assured, however, that the Russians will try to win in this meeting, which will be held on February 9-11 in the city of La Seren in the north of Chile.
Safin recalled that Fernando Gonzalez, who takes fifth place in the rating list of the Professional Tennisian Association and the second in the championship race, played very well in mid-January in the first of the Bolshoi helmet series, the open championship of Australia.
“Therefore, we all understand that this qualifying match will be very complicated, but nothing is impossible,” ITAR -TASS quoted Marat.
In La Seren, where Safin immediately went from Santiago, he will join the rest of the tennis players of the Russian team - Dmitry Tursunov, Igor Andreev and Teimuraz Gabashvili.
Speaking of Nikolai Davydenko and Mikhail Yuzhno, Safin noted that they could not come to Chile, because they are very exhausted by the long tennis season in Europe, and now they should rest. Meanwhile, Tursunov is actively trained on the courts of a small resort village near La Serna, avoiding contacts with the press. And the Andreev is resting after the competition that ended on Sunday in the Chilean city of Vigna del Mar.
On Monday, a meeting of representatives of the Organizational Committee of the Unofficial World Cup among men's teams and team captains, Shamil Tarpishchev and Hans Guilddemister, where the match will be discussed for training athletes, will be held.
The cheapest tickets for all three days of competition have already been sold out. Now there are tickets worth from 40 thousand Chilean pesos (about $ 80) to 80 thousand pesos. Such a strong excitement is also caused by the fact that now in Chile the vacation season, and the resort city of La Seren with its picturesque beaches and tourist attractions is very popular among Chileans and foreign tourists.
