Azerbaijani sniper shot the Armenian major on the border

Major of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia died on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the republic said on Thursday.

According to the press service, last Wednesday, the Armenian military personnel, 49-year-old Major of the Armed Forces of Armenia Norayir Pashikyan, was shot dead by the Azerbaijani border in the Noemiberensky section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Interfax reports.

This year, this is the third case of the death of the Armenian soldier as a result of shots from the Azerbaijani side.

Recall that the ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia was established in May 1994. In the course of the bloody conflict, which began in the 1990s between the Armenians and the Azerbaijanis on the issue of belonging to the Nagorno -Karabakh, Baku lost control not only over the Nagorno -Karabakh, but also the seven regions, Jebrail, Fizuli, Kalbajar, Zangelan and Gubadly. As a result, about a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and forced immigrants who are currently living in tent towns.

The UN Security Council in its resolutions of April 30, 1993, 853 of July 29, 1993, 874 of October 14, 1993 and 884 of November 12, 1993 condemned the occupation of the territory of Azerbaijan. Sat also demanded an immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed groups from the occupied territories, Interfax reports.

Currently, on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, where, mainly, ethnic Armenians live, an unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which has close economic and military-political relations with Armenia. Azerbaijan seeks to restore its control over the Nagorno -Karabakh.

Today, under international mediation, there is a negotiation process to solve this problem. The Minsk OSCE group, whose co -chairs of which are the United States, Russia and France, are engaged in the settlement of the conflict around the Nagorno -Karabakh.
