The Government of Japan imposed sanctions against Tehran on Friday in connection with the nuclear program carried out by it. These measures provide, in particular, freezing a number of Iranian bank deposits, the general secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Yasukhis Syodzaki said at a press conference at Tokyo. “In connection with the Iranian nuclear problem,” he said, “we need decisive actions, from the point of view of maintaining the non -proliferation regime. We must also take into account the impact of this issue on the situation around the nuclear program of North Korea and on the prospects of peaceful settlement in the Middle East.”
Measures approved by the Japanese government are based on a resolution of the UN Security Council, which imposed sanctions against Iran in December last year. From today, Tokyo has banned the transfer of materials, technologies and financial resources that can be used in its nuclear missile program. Bank accounts of 10 organizations and 12 private individuals are also blocked. They are suspected of involvement in Iran’s nuclear program, ITAR-TASS reports.
We will remind, earlier the foreign ministers of the European Union countries at a meeting in Brussels reached an agreement on the introduction of sanctions against Iran. This measure is associated with Tehran’s refusal to suspend the implementation of the nuclear program. At the same time, the EU Foreign Minister insist on continuing discussion with Iranian authorities related to international control over atomic plans. Despite the agreement reached, the implementation of the sanctions regime will enter into force no earlier than the end of the month, until the European commission makes proposals on the regulations.
The package of sanctions exactly copies the sanctions imposed on Iran with the UN Security Council. For the final entry into force of EU sanctions, the approved document must be transferred to the main languages of the EU and transferred to lawyers to consideration.
Recall that in the resolution unanimously adopted on December 23, the Council demanded that all states take the necessary measures to prevent imports into Iran and export from it of all objects, materials, equipment, goods and technologies that could contribute to the activities of Iran related to enrichment, processing or heavy water, or the development of nuclear weapons delivery systems. ” At the insistence of Russia, provisions on the prohibition of foreign trips of Iranian specialists, as well as to freeze assets of a number of enterprises, were previously excluded from the text of the resolution. The resolution emphasizes that the sanctions will be canceled immediately, as soon as Tehran fulfills all the requirements of the IAEA and the UN Security Council for the national nuclear program.
