On the eve of the arrival of the Olympic evaluative commission in Sochi, the energy sector promised to spend more than $ 2 billion on the development of the city’s electricity economy. In an accelerated manner, new power plants will be built and power lines are laid, which were supposed to be created 25 years ago. On Saturday, February 17, RAO "UES of Russia" and the administration of the Krasnodar Territory signed an agreement on the reconstruction of the energy system of the region. The reconstruction of objects should finally ensure reliable energy supply to consumers. The main input of electric grid objects will be held until the end of 2008 and will ensure the energy supply of objects under preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Recall that due to the snowy cyclone on January 30, more than 400 thousand people remained in Sochi without electricity. The energy supply was restored only on February 1. The first results of the investigation of the energy -starting in Sochi showed that its causes were climate changes and wear of electrical equipment - the wires should have been changed 25 years ago. Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the disconnection of electricity in the city that claims to be the capital of the 2014 Olympics, noted: "Natural problems associated with the energy supply of this region are taking place every year."

The new RAO UES program should solve this problem. The total cost of work until 2011 is estimated at more than 83.6 billion rubles, of which 33.7 billion rubles will be aimed at developing generation and 49.9 billion rubles - for investments in an electric grid.

In particular, the Investment Program of the RAO UES provides for the construction of several new power plants and substations in the Black Sea coast, as well as laying new power lines, including bypassing mining arrays. An additional 14 billion rubles will be required to implement the underwater cable laying project, which the power engineers have already asked the government.

According to the technical director of the energy holding Boris Weinzicher Energocabel with a length of 100 kilometers should provide reliable energy supply to the region, regardless of weather conditions. “This is one of the solutions that works for the reliability of energy supply,” explained Anatoly Chubais, head of the energy holding. He explained that the main problems of energy supply of the Black Sea coast are associated with sharp icing of power lines, and you can leave this problem by conducting a cable along the bottom of the Black Sea.

The assessment commission begins work in Sochi
