Cold War paranoia, moral relativism and routine instead of fiery James Bondian exploits, but it’s all interesting to watch. “Franz + Polina” (Russia, 2006, Mikhail Segal). A military drama based on the story “Mute” by Ales Adamovich, a participant in last year’s MIFF in the “Perspectives” competition. In 1943, a young SS man Franz (Adrian Topol) living in a Belarusian village develops feelings for his mistress’s daughter, Polina (Svetlana Ivanova), but nothing good can come from this union, of course: any day an order must be given to liquidation of local residents. In 1709, King Louis XIV expels two inveterate gamblers and duelists from France. One of them ends up in Russia, the other in Sweden - during the battle of Poltava they, naturally, turn out to be opponents. But the adventures of the heroes are not limited to large-scale battles alone - there will be love, intrigue, and even mysticism. Starring Dmitry Miller, Alexey Chadov, Alexander Bukharov, Ksenia Knyazeva, Evgeny Menshov, Nikolai Chindyaykin, Valery Malikov, Andrey Sukhov and Daria Semenova.
“Bridge to Terabithia” (USA, 2007, Gabor Csupo). An adaptation of Catherine Patterson's classic children's fantasy, which until now has only been filmed on television. A boy and a girl cross a magical stream in the forest and end up in the equally magical country of Terabithia, inhabited by living trees, elves, trolls and completely indescribable creatures, and eventually become the king and queen there.
