In Makhachkala today, at about 6:00 Moscow time, the mullah of the quarterly mosque on Nagornaya Street was killed by unknown people. This was reported to ITAR-TASS in the duty unit of the Makhachkala International Affairs.

According to the police, "53-year-old Dagira Kachaev was found by parishioners in a wash room before the prayer." The criminals shot the clergyman twice in the head and disappeared.

At the crime scene, two sleeves from the Makarov pistol were discovered. A criminal case has been instituted on the fact of the murder, an investigation is underway.

The head of the coordination center of the Muslims of the North Caucasus Ismail Berdiev called the murder of the imam "a very terrible" event.

“Even in Soviet times, when no one knew about religion and did not want to know, there were no such cases,” he told Interfax agency, recalling the murder of two imams in his native Karachay -Cherkessia last year, as well as the murder of the rector of the Orthodox church in the Sverdlovsk region.

Mufti found it difficult to suggest by what the last murder was committed, but expressed the opinion that all these tragic cases were a consequence of the atheistic time.

"People who did not believe in anything become a clean sheet of paper of impostors and adventurers, ready to come up with fatwas, calling for violence," I. Berdiev emphasized.
