The Basmanny Court of Moscow extended until August 13 the term of detention of banker Alexei Frenkel , accused of organizing the murder of the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Andrei Kozlov. Thus, the court granted the petition of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation to extend the deadline for his pre -trial detention for another three months, Interfax reports with reference to the lawyer Frenkel - Igor Trunov.

According to the lawyer, in the end, from the moment of detention, the period of detention of Frenkel in custody has been extended by more than 7 months. The prosecutor's office substantiated the extension of a preventive measure with the need to obtain an expert opinion, as well as the detention of the accused Cosmynin, who is taking place in the case as an executor. Trunov noted that, according to the defense, in order to detain Kosmynin, there is no need to maintain a detention of Frenkel, and the prosecutor's office did not introduce other arguments. In this regard, the defense does not agree with the decision made, and will appeal it to the Moscow City Court.

35-year-old banker Frenkel was detained on the night of January 11. A few days later, the court issued a sanction for his arrest, then he was charged. According to law enforcement agencies, at one time Frenkel was related to the creation of a number of financial and credit institutions, in particular, Sodbusinessbank and VIP Bank.

"The detainee was the owner of the network of credit and financial institutions that specialized in laundering income," Trunov said. According to him, the investigation believes that as a result of Kozlov’s activities to deprive the licenses of banks that violate the law on laundering money, “the suspect incurred multi -billion dollar losses”.

Frenkel was the chairman of the board of VIP-Bank OJSC. As Frenkel Trunov’s lawyer previously stated, his client connects the case, excited against him, “with those persons who are behind the bank’s unreasonable review”.

Kozlov, who oversee the supervisory block of the Central Bank, died in the hospital on September 14, 2006 after the attempt on the territory of the football arena in Moscow on the eve of him on the eve of him. Two unknown people shot several times in Kozlov. During the attempt, his driver was also killed. The criminal case on the fact of the murder of Kozlov was instituted under Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and adopted by the Office for the investigation of especially important cases of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

As reported earlier in the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, in October last year, the murder executors were detained in this criminal case, and in November-December and intermediaries were detained. All of them were charged and the preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen. In total, seven people were detained in the case of Kozlov’s murder, including the alleged customer, three intermediaries and three crime performers.
