The Japanese government resumes direct economic assistance to Palestinian autonomy

On May 10, the Japanese government decided to resume the provision of direct economic assistance to the Palestinian autonomy, RIA Novosti reports with reference to The Daily Yomiuri .

In June, representatives of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will visit the Palestinian National Autonomy (PNA) to discuss details.

In the period from 1993 to 2005, Tokyo allocated $ 1 billion in total, but after the radical Islamist group "Hamas" came to power there in March 2006, direct assistance was suspended. The Japanese Foreign Ministry explained this to the fears associated with the possibility of using the allocated funds for the military targets of Hamas.

Tokyo continued to participate in the help of PNA through the UN programs, thereby avoiding the transfer of funds to the control of the government formed by Hamas.
