George Bush extended unilateral US sanctions against Syria for a year

US President George Bush signed an order to extend one more year of the US unilateral sanctions against Syria, introduced in 2004, RIA Novosti reports.

"The actions and politics of the Syrian government continue to create an extraordinary and extreme threat to national security, foreign policy and the US economy," the disposal said by Bush.

It notes that the sanctions were introduced in May 2004 and expanded in April 2006 in response to the "actions of the Syrian Government to support terrorism, continuing the place of occupation of Lebanon at that time, the implementation of programs in the field of OMU and missile programs, as well as to undermine the efforts of the United States and the international community in relation to stabilization and reconstruction in Iraq."

In accordance with the order of 2004, the US sanctions suggested a complete ban on military supplies to Syria, sharp restrictions on general foreign trade with Syria, a ban on landing Syrian passenger aircraft in the United States, as well as freezing funds belonging to persons who assist Syria in covering representatives of well -known terrorist organizations or in obtaining access to technologies for the production of nuclear nuclear chemical and biological OMU.

The addition to the White House in May 2006 also provided for the blocking of all the US jurisdiction of assets belonging to persons and organizations that, according to the United States, could be involved in terrorist activities related to the murder of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafi Hariri and another 22 people, as well as repaired the conducted by the UN investigation of this murder. At the same time, sanctions prohibited any US financial and trade operations with these persons or organizations.

In accordance with Bush on Wednesday by order, all these sanctions against Syria will remain valid for one year after May 11, 2007.
