The Austrian Olympic Committee was fined for a doping scandal in Turin

The Olympic Committee of Austria was fined a million dollars in connection with a doping scandal at the Winter Olympic Games in 2006 in Turin. This was announced on Thursday by representatives of the International Olympic Committee.

According to them, the Executive Committee of the IOC unanimously decided on a fine. According to information common by sports officials, the Austrian Committee will be deprived of grants and subsidies from the IOC for an indefinite period for the indicated amount.

Recall that during the 20th Olympiad-2006 Austrian biathletes Wolfgang Perner and Wolfgang Rottmann hastily left Turin immediately after the search arranged by the staff of the anti-doping agency and the Italian police in the house where the Austrian ski team was stationed.

During the search, some medications were seized from Perner and Rottmann. The leadership of the Austrian biathlon team tried to persuade the athletes to wait for the clarification of circumstances, but they decided not to tempt fate, since the use of doping under Italian laws is punishable in criminal order.

Without waiting for further proceedings, the Austrians soon announced the end of their sports career, although they were negative for doping samples, ITAR-TASS notes.
