NATO denies involvement in the creation of secret CIA prisons in Europe

NATO denies the presence of a secret agreement between the United States and the Alliance on the transportation of suspects of terrorism through the territory of Europe by airplanes, RIA Novosti reports.

“NATO has nothing to do with this,” said Karman Romero, Deputy Official Representative of NATO Official Representative, noting that there was no “secret agreement” between NATO and the United States.

According to Romero, the flights were made "according to an individual" agreement between the United States and other NATO allies.

Secret prisons of the CIA for the maintenance of prisoners accused of terrorism existed in Poland and Romania in 2003-2005, the speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Dick Marty said on Friday at a press conference.

At a meeting of the PACE commission in Paris, he presented a second report to investigate the functioning of the principles of the CIA secret network, which reports that in Poland and Romania they were created with the consent of the presidents of these two countries.

The report refers to the agreement concluded between the United States and the NATO allies in October 2001, which granted the "right to flights of American military aircraft (through the territory of Europe) in connection with counter -terrorist operations."
