“Planet Terror” (USA, 2007, Robert Rodriguez). The second (after “Death Proof”) and also an extended half of the Tarantino-Rodriguez “Grindhouse”. In the bloody and reckless beyond all measure story about the battle of a handful of brave Texans with the carriers of the deadly virus who have lost their human form, Rodriguez was clearly inspired by Carpenter during “The Thing”, Giorgio Romero’s zombie trilogy, his own “From Dusk Till Dawn” and other cinematic beauties of a similar level. The main characters are a local martial arts master (Freddy Rodriguez - "Crazy", "Girl in the Water", "Bobby") and a girl with a machine gun instead of a prosthetic leg (Rose McGowan - "Scream", "Black Orchid", "Death Proof" "), and among the supporting characters it’s nice to see forgotten video heroes of the 80s and 90s by everyone except Rodriguez - from Michael Biehn to Jeff Fahey. Also starring Michael Parks, Quentin Tarantino, Tom Savini, Josh Brolin and Carlos Gagliardo.
“Dance Until You Drop” (USA, 2007, Harvey Glaser). In 1986, dancer Justin (Jamie Kennedy - Scream 3, Harold & Kumar Go Big, Son of the Mask) hits his head at a breakdancing competition and falls into a coma for twenty years. Having come to his senses, he realizes that while he was passed out, time, to put it mildly, did not stand still. But willy-nilly, Justin has to adapt to new realities and arrange his life. A very nice vinaigrette from the Back to the Future trilogy, Breaker films of the mid-80s and all youth comedies without exception during the reporting period. Also starring Maria Menounos, Michael Rosenbaum, Christopher McDonald, Bobby Lee, Rhody Piper and Vivica A. Fox.
“Flint” (Russia, 2007, Alexey Mizgirev). Uneven from a cinematic point of view, but worthy of attention in terms of social generalizations.
