The number of military departments in civilian universities of the country will be reduced by more than three times, RIA Novosti reports from the words of the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Nikolai Pankov. "Of the 229 now existing military departments, after the reduction, we will have 67," said Pankov.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation considered it appropriate that the leading universities of the country were preserved by military departments. The graduates of these universities will not call for military service, however, Pankov added, they will be able to serve officers under the contract at their own request.
"The army will only win if the graduates of the military departments arrive and arrange for military service under a contract," said Deputy Minister.
