| May 29 -- June 29, 2007 “Politicians Through the Eyes of the Media,” a joint project of Vremya Novostey and the Medialogy company, are ratings of political figures most actively discussed in the Russian media.
“Politicians through the Eyes of the Media” are published weekly on Mondays: over the course of a month, you can sequentially familiarize yourself with the ratings of governors of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, ministers of the Russian Federation and heads of foreign states. The ratings are also published on the publication's website - www.vremya.ru.
The ratings reflect both the total number of publications per month and the level of information favored by the media in relation to each political figure. The Information Favorability Index (IFI) is calculated based on the nature of references to a person (positive, negative, neutral), the significance of the message and the influence of the media.
Ratings of “Medialogy” “Politics through the eyes of the media” are calculated by an automatic online system based on materials from 3,000 of the largest Russian media, including TV, radio, press, news agencies and online publications.

As last month, Sergei Ivanov is in the forefront of the most frequently and positively covered members of the Russian government in the media. The leading position of the First Deputy Prime Minister in the ranking according to the Information Favorability Index (IFI) is explained primarily by his participation in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. Opening the meeting “Russia. Scenarios 2020,” Sergei Ivanov said that in the near future Russia will be an open, democratic, economically developed state. After the Deputy Prime Minister’s speech, the central press vied with each other to write about the “review” of the president’s successors at the forum. The signing of agreements between VASO and the largest Russian airlines for the supply of aircraft, which took place under his patronage, also had a positive impact on the media image of Sergei Ivanov.
The improvement in the media position of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in June is largely explained by the awarding of an honorary diploma to him by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus on the occasion of the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. Also, the mention and growth of the IB of the Russian Foreign Minister was positively affected by his meetings with the leadership of Iran, with the foreign ministers of the Caspian states, and his visit to Israel and Palestine to discuss ways out of the crisis. Sergei Lavrov's statement that Russia will continue to fulfill all its obligations under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) brought the minister additional media points.
The head of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers, Mikhail Fradkov, closes the top three leaders in information security, while leading the ranking in terms of the number of media reports. The Prime Minister's high informational indicators are due to the constant attention of journalists to his daily activities. Thus, the media noted Mikhail Fradkov’s critical remarks against some ministers who are not properly implementing federal target programs. The signing of a plan for economic cooperation between Russia and Ukraine for the period until 2010 by M. Fradkov and V. Yanukovych did not go unnoticed by the media.
The head of the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Mikhail Zurabov, still remains with a negative value of the IIB. Probably, until the problem with additional drug provision is resolved and the reform of the same name is revised in favor of pensioners, the media image of the minister will remain negative. | |
