In the second round of elections, the Russian resort city beat the South Korean Pyeongchang by a margin of four votes.

It is worth noting that after the first round, the Korean city received 36 votes, Sochi - 34, and the Austrian Salzburg - 25. According to the voting rules, Salzburg dropped out of the Olympic race, and in the second round, Sochi received 51 votes, Pyeongchang - 47. According to the vice-governor, Prime Minister of the Russian Government Alexander Zhukov , of those IOC members who supported the Austrian application in the first round, in the second 17 people cast their votes for the Russian city.

The final results were announced by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge. At approximately 4:30 Moscow time, he will sign a contract with representatives of the Russian delegation - ROC President Leonid Tyagachev , Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachev and Sochi Mayor Viktor Kolodyazhny to host the 2014 Games in Sochi.

For the first time in history, Russia received the Winter Olympics. In 1980, the Summer Games were held in Moscow, but due to the tense political situation, athletes from a number of countries did not take part in them.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held in Sochi
