SEC and religious associations of Serbia discussed the prospects of the country's entry into the European Union

Representatives of traditional churches and religious associations of Serbia held a meeting on the topic last week: "The contribution of the church and religious associations to the process of Serbia entering the European Union." The event took place in Novy Sad as part of the three-day conference "Serbia on the way to the European Union", the Blagovers-Info reports with reference to the official website of the Serbian Orthodox Church .

The meeting was organized by the German Embassy in Belgrade in cooperation with the ISAC Foundation, a media center, an independent association of Serbia journalists, the Millennium Civil Society Development Center, the Civil Initiative Development Committee and Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

The conference was attended by state, religious and public figures, scientists. The forum aimed at putting the beginning of public discussion on theoretical and practical issues of the European future of Serbia.

In the work of the section on the topic "Serbia as part of Europe: what unites the churches and religious associations of Serbia with the European Union" took an active part by Bishop Irenaeus ( Serbian Orthodox Church ) and Bishop of Belgrade Stanislav (Catholic Church). Vladislav Ivian, a representative of the Slovak Evangelical Church, and Anna Frenkel, a representative of the Jewish community in Novaya Sad, also shared their thoughts.

On the sections on the topic "Serbian identity and European identity. Obstacles on the way to the European Union from the point of view of the Church and religious associations" were the bishop of the Egar Porfiry (SKC) and Abdulah Numan, a representative of Muslims.

The conference was attended by Bishop Budimlyansk-Khikshicsky Joannikiye (SKC), who briefly acquainted those present with the difficulties that the Montenegrin-Primorsky metropolis faces due to the legally indefinite status of the church and religious associations in Montenegro.
