This holiday was approved on the initiative of the famous naval commander, Hero and Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov, since 1939. Yesterday, in accordance with the order of Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, sailors in all four fleets and the Caspian Flotilla organized military and sports festivals, in which representatives of the Navy's high command, politicians, and businessmen took part. The farthest went were the Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Defense Nikolai Pankov and the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Vladimir Masorin - they received a parade of ships in the closed city of Vilyuchinsk off the eastern coast of Kamchatka.Similar parades with fire exercises, amphibious landings and parachutists took place at the main bases of the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok and the Baltic Fleet in the city of Baltiysk. In the Kaliningrad region, a historical reconstruction of the assault by Soviet troops in April 1945 on the Pillau fortress (present-day Baltiysk) was presented for the first time. In Novorossiysk, for the first time in the history of the celebration of Navy Day, a squadron of ships from the Novorossiysk naval base entered Tsemes Bay, whose personnel “repelled” an air attack, “destroyed” mine dangers, and “released” ships captured by “terrorists.” In the Arctic, together with the North Sea residents, the holiday was celebrated by delegations from more than 80 Russian regions, as well as the US military delegation led by the commander of the Navy in Europe, Admiral Henry Urlik.
The holiday of military sailors was even celebrated at all five permanent stations in Antarctica. In Moscow, far from the seas, folk festivities took place in Kolomenskoye, Sokolniki, Izmailovo and on the Grebnoy Canal in Krylatskoye. Security during the celebrations in the capital was provided by about three thousand police officers and internal troops. A mobile reserve of riot police was at the ready.
And, of course, the now foreign “city of Russian sailors” Sevastopol was not left out of the holiday - despite the fact that the Ukrainian side is introducing more and more new restrictions on the demonstration of combat capabilities. Among the guests of the holiday in Sevastopol were the Moscow delegation led by Federation Council member Oleg Tolkachev and State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin. The parade, in which more than 20 ships took part, was hosted by the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Alexander Tatarinov, who will soon leave for Moscow to serve as deputy commander-in-chief of the Navy.
The curator of the army and navy in the government, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, as well as the head of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography, Mikhail Shvydkoy, who joined him, celebrated the holiday on Palace Square in St. Petersburg, where they attended a concert of the legendary Rolling Stones.
The current holiday, unlike those held a few years ago, has not become a reason for loud and empty reports. As part of an extensive program for updating the ship's personnel, three strategic underwater missile systems are being built, serial construction of new corvette-class surface ships of the near sea zone has been established, a frigate - a ship of the far sea zone - has been laid down, the construction of new diesel submarines, artillery and landing ships is actively underway ships and boats.
State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov, congratulating the sailors, noted: today the naval strategy is being improved, the level of personnel training is growing, the tasks of the development of the Navy are reflected in the state armament program for 2007-2015, which is fully funded. Some garrisons made special preparations for the holiday. In particular, in Kamchatka, more than 400 officers and midshipmen received keys to apartments, and a health and sports complex with a water park was commissioned.
During the holidays in different parts of the country, the sky was colored with artillery salutes and fireworks, and guests were traditionally fed naval pasta.
