American automaker Ford Motor Co. will recall about 3.6 million vehicles due to problems with one of the transmission components, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

According to the management, this element of the gearbox can overheat during operation, which causes smoke and even fire. The recall covers trucks, cars and SUVs manufactured by Ford, 1992-2004. release depending on each specific model, reports Reuters .

This year, Ford has repeatedly faced problems associated with the need to recall a large number of vehicles. Thus, in April, a decision was made to recall more than 500 thousand Escape models. This measure affected cars of this model range produced between 2001 and 2004. and sold in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

The basis was complaints received by the company about engine fires caused by corrosion in the ABS system. A Ford spokesman said 50 fires were reported. No one was injured as a result of the incidents.

In March, Ford announced a recall of 37.4 thousand F-Series Super Duty pickups. The reason was the company received three complaints about fires in the exhaust pipes of cars. Ford spokesman Dan Jervis said the fires were caused by fuel leaking from a filter located near the exhaust pipe. Ford also asked dealers to suspend sales of these pickups until the vehicles are inspected and the problem is resolved.

Additionally, in March, Ford also recalled 155,000 pickup trucks and SUVs due to a faulty cruise control switch. In just the last two years, the second-largest US automaker has recalled more than 5.8 million vehicles.

Ford Motor Co. net income based on the results of the second quarter of 2007. amounted to $750 million against losses of $317 million for the same period in 2006. At the same time, the company’s revenue increased during the specified period by 6% and amounted to $44.2 billion, while a year earlier this figure was $41.9 billion.

Profit before tax in 2007 amounted to $483 million (down 38% from $774 million in the second quarter of 2006), but the sale of Aston Martin and some other one-time gains allowed another $443 million to be added to this amount. Operating profit this year amounted to 258 million dollars against operating losses of 118 million dollars a year earlier. The quarter ended was the company's first in which it made a profit, after seven consecutive quarters of net losses.
