One of the most experienced football players of the Russian national team, defender Sergei Ignashevich, has been temporarily expelled from the national team on the eve of a friendly match with Poland, which will be held tomorrow at the capital's Lokomotiv stadium. The head coach of our team, Guus Hiddink, decided to take this step in order to increase discipline in the team.
According to Hiddink, Ignashevich warned assistant Dutch specialist Alexander Borodyuk a week in advance about being late for the national team meeting, citing traffic jams. The coaching staff of the Russian national team considered this reason disrespectful. “You can’t say a few days in advance that you’ll be late. All the other players arrive on time, even those from out of town,” said Guus Hiddink. “I told Ignashevich: the doors of the national team are open for you, I will call you to the official game later, and now if you need rest, rest.”
Now Guus Hiddink must rack his brains over who will take Ignashevich’s place on the field: of the nominal central defenders, only Dynamo Denis Kolodin remains at his disposal.
The Russian national team, already without Ignashevich, held a light warm-up session yesterday on the reserve field of the Lokomotiv stadium. Guus Hiddink himself also took part in the training, and with a series of shots he tested the reaction of the goalkeepers - Dynamo's Anton Shunin and Kuban's Vladimir Gabulov. Judging by the remark of the Dutch specialist: ok, Gabul, he especially liked the way the Kuban goalkeeper hit the balls.
In addition, Guus Hiddink noted that in the match with the Poles he intends to let all the players in the team play, emphasizing that the Russian national team players need game practice with such a serious opponent.
“Since my friend Leo Beenhakker took over Poland, this team has improved a lot. And it’s useful for us to test our strength in a match with such a trained team. However, the result will not be so important; after all, the match has the status of a friendly,” Hiddink emphasized.
