Prague officially seeks the right to hold the summer Olympics in 2016. On Tuesday, the mayor of the Czech capital, Pavel Bam and the chairman of the Czech Olympic Committee, Milan Irac signed a letter that will be transferred to the International Olympic Committee in the coming days.
"This is an official application, which the city begins the struggle for the title of the Olympic capital," ITAR-TASS was told in the press service of the Prague City Hall.
In addition to Prague, the right to hold the Olympics in 2016 achieve Baku, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Chicago and other largest cities. Currently, there are still a collection of official applications.
For the first time, the idea of holding the Olympics in Prague arose in the 20s of the last century. She was not destined to be realized because of the Second World War. In the late 60s, the Czech capital considered the opportunity to participate in a competition for the right to organize the Olympiad in 1980. Then representatives of the former Czechoslovakia supported the candidacy of Moscow, which became the capital of the Olympics-80.
