The Chita court rejected the complaint of Lebedev’s lawyers and left him in custody until October 2

The Chita Regional Court on Tuesday confirmed the decision of the Ingodinsky district court of Chita, which extended the ex-head of the MFI Menatep Platon Lebedev, the term of detention in the Chita pre-trial detention center until October 2. The complaint of Lebedev’s lawyers is rejected. “The decision is expected. The topic of the preventive measure and extending the period of detention is a sacred cow that cannot be touched,” Konstantin Ritkin, lawyer Lebedev, said at the end of the trial.

On August 30, the court announced a break until September 4 to familiarize the court with the materials provided by Lebedev’s lawyer Vladimir Krasnov.

The materials relate to the position of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, which, according to the lawyer, refutes the arguments of the prosecutor's office, on the basis of which Lebedev extended the term of detention in the pre -trial detention center. In addition, the lawyer insists that a number of documents attached to the case by the prosecutor's office at the last court hearing were drawn up inappropriately.

Also, Krasnov believes, the prosecutor’s office ignored the decision of the Basmann district court of Moscow, which recognized the investigation in the Lebedev case and ex-head of Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky in Chita.

According to the lawyer, the court in Chita "rejects" the decision of the Moscow court. If you follow the logic of the prosecution, Ritkin believes, then the investigation can be carried out anywhere, even in Novgorod, even in the Arctic, Interfax reports.

"I am ready to agree with this in only one case: one episode of the case with money laundering is connected with Cyprus. Let's conduct an investigation in Nicosia!", The lawyer said.

As a representative of the prosecutor’s office said during the court session, the Moscow Basmanny court made its decision on the illegality of the investigation in Chita after the Ingodinsky court of Chita extended the term of Lebedev’s detention until October 2. “So, maybe this decision of the Basmanny Court is illegal?” The prosecutor said.

During the court hearing, Plato Lebedev stated that he was ready to apply to the European Court of Human Rights to Strasbourg with a complaint against violations committed, in his opinion, the Prosecutor General.

As reported, the Ingodinsky District Court of Chita satisfied on June 29 the petition of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation to extend the term of detention in the Chita pre -trial detention center Lebedev until October 2, 2007. The decision was made due to the fact that Lebedev and his lawyers did not have time to get acquainted with the materials in the new criminal case.

On April 16, the Moscow City Court confirmed the illegality of the investigation in the City of the ex-head of the Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Lebedev about the laundering of funds. On June 18, the Presidium of the Moscow City Court also confirmed the illegality of the investigation in the criminal case against Khodorkovsky and Lebedev in Chita.
