In their first match, the capital's army team, led by head coach Valery Gazzaev, lost to the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven - 1:2. Fenerbahçe, in turn, beat Italian Inter at home - 1:0. This week the Milanese host rivals from the Land of Tulips.

In the UEFA Cup, Russian teams should not have problems reaching the second round. Moscow “Spartak” goes to Sweden to meet the second division team “Haken”, having already defeated the opponent at home 5:0; “Zenith” on the banks of the Neva has created a solid reserve for itself (3:0) in the confrontation with the Belgian “Standard”. Lokomotiv defeated the Danish Midtjylland (3:1) away and now they will probably win again in Cherkizovo.
TABLE TENNIS. October 5-7. Team World Cup. Magdeburg (Germany).
After a relative calm, life in world ping-pong began to boil again. The Russian masters of the small racket have a very busy schedule of performances in October - the World Team Cup, the first ever European Super Cup “Top-8” in Kazan and the stage of the “Pro Tour” series in St. Petersburg.
The selection of teams for the World Cup (the total prize fund is $240 thousand) was based on the results of the 2006 World Championship in Germany, where the Russian men's team took an honorable sixth place. The draw for the upcoming competitions in Magdeburg, carried out by the International Table Tennis Federation, did not at all favor Igor Podnosov’s wards - they found themselves in the same company with the ping-pong giants the Chinese, their neighboring Hong Kong and a very strong and stable French squad. The other quartet consisted of Korea, Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. For women, the teams were distributed into quartets as follows: “A” - China, Japan, Hungary, Germany; "B" - Hong Kong, Belarus, Korea, Austria. Here Russians need to root for our closest geographical neighbors, the Belarusians. Moreover, this team includes Victoria Pavlovich, in tandem with whom our Svetlana Ganina won the gold medal at the European Championships in Belgrade. Let us clarify that at continental championships athletes from different countries are allowed to form tandems, but at world tournaments they are not.
BASKETBALL. October 1--7. European Championship. Women. Ortona, Vasto, Chieti (Italy). Second group stage, playoffs .
Today the Russian national team, which has been given only one task by the leadership of the national sports federation - to certainly win gold, is meeting with the Belarusian team. It is interesting that in our delegation at the tournament there are two Olympic champions of Barcelona 1992, who are students of Belarusian basketball, or rather, the once famous Minsk “Horizon”. This is the head of the directorate for holding super league competitions, Irina Sumnikova, and Elena Shvaibovich (Ksenzhik), who was elected president of the Rostov Region Basketball Federation a few days ago. Moreover, after the collapse of the USSR, Sumnikova played for the Russian national team, Shvaibovich - for Belarus. Igor Grudin’s team will complete the second group stage on October 3 with a match against Spain. According to our mentor, the leader of the team from the Iberian Peninsula, Amaya Valdemoro, plays in the national team with much greater emotional passion and energy than in the Russian Super League for CSKA.
The quarterfinal matches will be held at the European Championships on Thursday and Friday, and the semifinals and finals on Saturday and Sunday.
VOLLEYBALL. October 6. Start of the Men's Super League Championship .
On the first day of the tournament they play: Dynamo-TTG (Kazan) - Yugra-Samotlor (Nizhnevartovsk), Dynamo (Moscow) - Neftyanik (Yaroslavl), Iskra (Odintsovo) - Lokomotiv "(Novosibirsk), "Fakel" (Novy Urengoy) - "Ural" (Ufa), "Lokomotiv-Izumrud" (Ekaterinburg) - "Lokomotiv-Belogorye" (Belgorod), "Dynamo-Yantar" (Kaliningrad) - "ZSK-Gazprom" (Surgut district).
The main feature of the starting championship is that it is held according to the so-called Italian scoring system. Previously, a victory was worth 2 points, a defeat - 1, and teams were left with zero only due to absence or technical defeat. Now, for a win with a score of 3:0 or 3:1, three points are awarded in the tournament table, for success in five games - two, for the same failure - one, and a fiasco of 1:3 and 0:3 does not bring any points. The Italian system has long been used in many championships on the continent. It is considered the most fair, although, for example, in Germany and Spain they continue to adhere to the classic version that has been proven over the years. The same applies to the club championships of Brazil and Argentina. In Russia, only men have switched to the Italian system; in the women's super league, everything remains the same.
