Residents of St. Petersburg sent an open letter to the president and governor demanding that they understand the situation around the Child Psychiatry rehabilitation treatment center. According to them, the center's patients are kept in inhumane conditions, similar to conditions in a concentration camp. The authors of the letter insist that the city administration take urgent measures that will protect the lives and health of children. They demand strict control over the use of potent drugs, a review of the adequacy of punishment for patients, and an investigation into the circumstances of the death of a 14-year-old patient. Information began to leak into the press after a criminal case was opened against the former chief nurse of the Child Psychiatry Center, Olga Nikiforova, on charges of fraud. According to Olga Nikiforova herself, this was done in retaliation for the fact that she made public data on human rights violations in this institution. On the one hand, the newly surfaced story about the St. Petersburg CVL is very similar to a scandal being fanned by someone. It is clear that there are citizens in the world who experience a sacred fear of any psychiatry. And whether this center is much worse than other children's psychiatric hospitals in Russia, and why the letter to the president needed to be written right now is a big question. On the other hand, it is quite obvious that such institutions in our country are always scary. And children tied to beds with belts, and “inconvenient” inmates of orphanages who are sent to a mental hospital as punishment, and the “plan for psychos” - all this is most likely true. Just as true is what the notorious Larisa Arap wrote in her article about the same hospital. And therefore, in my opinion, it is still worth talking about this, regardless of who and why this scandal was needed right now.
