The FSB allowed to import BlackBerry communicators into Russia

The Center for Licensing, Certification and Protection of GOSTIANA FSB gave MTS the temporary right to import BlackBerry communicators to Russia and software for them. This is written on Tuesday "Vedomosti".

MTS and Vimpelcom tried to agree on the sales of Blackberry communicators in Russia for two years. The difficulty is that, according to Russian laws, law enforcement agencies should be able to listen to conversations and read the mail of subscribers, and the devices encrypting information should receive the FSB certificate. The Canadian company RIM has still refused to provide the FSB codes for decryption, respectively, the FSB did not give permission to import BlackBerry into Russia.

The Vimpelcom received the same permission, said the press secretary of the company Ekaterina Osadchay.

A source in MTS says that, according to the permission of the FSB, the BlackBerry server will not be installed next to the client’s mail server, as around the world, but in the MTS office. But only special services employees will have access to it.
