Russian demarche against the contract with the NHL is ready to support Sweden

Following the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR), the Swedish Hockey Union (ShHS) already may refuse to participate in the contract between the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) and the North American National Hockey League (NHL). It is reported by ITAR-TASS with reference to the press service of the ShHS.

The LIG Committee in ShHS, which is engaged in organizational issues on holding the country's championships in different divisions, opposed the participation of the Union in the contract. The decision was made at a meeting of the committee on this agreement, which, in particular, provides for monetary compensation by the NHL European clubs for their hockey players.

Recall that the FHR did not join the previous agreement that has expired last summer. And, thanks to the position of leading Russian clubs, he is not going to join on the terms of the NHL and to a new agreement. The Russian side is not satisfied with the low level of compensation, which does not cover the costs of preparing a hockey player capable of signing the Nkhlovsk contract.

The LIG CHCS committee unanimously voted to oblige the leadership of the Union to interrupt the powers of the current agreement.

“This is a bad agreement, there are many provisions that we do not like,” the head of the committee Peter Gudmunsson commented on the decision. “The decision made may mean that hockey players connected by contracts are not entitled to sign contracts with NHL clubs.”
