The state corporation Rostekhnology plans to create an armored holding in Volgograd based on part of the assets of the Volgograd Tractor Plant, the Volgograd Shipbuilding Plant and the FSUE "Barricada".
According to RBC Daily , we are talking about the Volgograd Machine -Building Company VGTZ, which is allocated from the Volgograd Tractor Plant, which develops and produces military caterpillar vehicles, in particular, landing vehicles (BMD). The FSUE on the Barricades is already actually controlled by Rosoboronexport, while part of the FSUE capacities should also be included in RUSPEPSTAL.
The formation of an armored holding is already going on, however, the Volgograd plants have not yet been announced about the inclusion of Volgograd plants. Back in the early 2000s, the government planned to put the "barricades" at the head of such an association. Subsequently, the idea arose of creating two armored holdings: heavy armored vehicles based on Uralvagonzavod and light armored vehicles based on Kurganmashvod, where VGTZ could enter. According to the sources of RBC Daily in the weapons market, the issue of creating a united armored structure is being discussed now.
Now the Kurganmashzavod and VGTZ are controlled by the Tractor Plants concern Mikhail Bolotin, who, in this summer, announced the reorganization of his defense capacities. In particular, it was planned to master the BMD assembly at the Kurganmashzavod before the end of this year, and only the production of components at the VGTZ.
According to the head of the Center for the Analysis of Strategies and Technologies of Ruslan Pukhov, there are no fundamental advantages of separating the functions of the release of heavy and light armored vehicles. "In world practice, the creation of one or two different holdings that produce heavy equipment and light ones was determined more historically," he says.
The recently created state corporation Rostekhnology unites dozens of different -profile companies, the core of which is Rosoboronexport with all its current assets. Among them are “Ovensprom”, “defensive systems”, “defense industry”, AvtoVAZ, “VSMPO-Avism”, “RUSPITSSTAL” and a number of others.
