President Musharraf cancels a state of emergency in Pakistan from December 16

The state of emergency in Pakistan will be canceled on December 16, the President of the country Perevez Musharraf said on Thursday on Thursday on the air of the Pakistani State television channel.

"I signed a resolution on the lifting of a state of emergency and canceling the suspension of the Constitution on December 16," Interfax quotes Musharraf's statement. Earlier on Thursday, he officially again took office of the President of Pakistan.

The emergency was introduced in the country on November 3. The reason for his Musharraf called the aggravation of the situation in the north-west of Pakistan as a result of the intensification of the Taliban and militants of Al-Qaeda.

According to local analysts, Musharraf then went to such a measure in connection with the postponement of the decision of the Supreme Court to recognize as valid the results of the presidential elections held on October 6, at which he was re-elected for the second term of his stay at the post of head of state, ITAR-TASS notes.

On the cancellation of the emergency, the opposition leaders insisted, considering the unacceptable the holding of parliamentary elections in such conditions. The United States has repeatedly spoke about the need to cancel this measure.
