| Georgia has invited NATO to hold multinational air exercises on its territory this year as part of the Partnership for Peace program, the Georgian Ministry of Defense told Vremya Novostey. Seven NATO officers spent four days studying Georgia's ability to host such exercises. NATO experts believe that Georgia's military bases and airfields require additional investment. The most modern is the Marneuli airfield near Tbilisi; Turkey allocated almost $2.5 million for its modernization several years ago. This airfield is able to service flights around the clock and in any weather conditions, which meets NATO standards. Georgia expects to prepare to join the Alliance in 2008.
