Saakashvili is gaining 52 percent

Mikhail Saakashvili retains leadership in the elections of the President of Georgia after processing 87.4 percent of the ballots. According to News-Georgia, he gains 52.1 percent of the vote, which provides him with victory in the first round. The website of the Georgian CIK says that ballots are calculated from 3070 plots out of 3512.

On Tuesday, the Central Election Commission, as expected, will complete the calculation of the ballots.

The main competitor to Saakashvili, a candidate from the United opposition Levan Gachechiladze, is still gaining 24.98 percent.

Badri Patarkatsishvili has 6.69 percent, Shalva Natelashvili - 6.3, David Gamkrelidze - 3.91, George Maisashvili - 0.74, Irina Sarishvili -Chanturia - 0.19 percent of the vote.

The elections were held on January 5, about two million voters took part in them.

If none of the candidates receives the simple majority necessary for the victory, the CEC appoints the second round of elections, which should take place two weeks after the first.
