In the Maldives on Tuesday, an attempt was made on the president of the country Maumun Abdul Gayum. According to Reuters with reference to the press secretary of President Muhammad Sharif, an unknown young man tried to attack Gayum with a kitchen knife.

“The president was in the north on the launch of one of the energy projects,” Sharif said. “He shook his hands to the supporters when the young man came up and tried to hit him with a large kitchen knife. He saved his boy, who blocked his path and tried to grab a knife, while receiving a serious injury to his arm.”
