Egypt blocked the border with the gas sector

Egyptian troops completely closed the passages across the border with the gas sector. Today the last gap was closed in a wall separating two territories.

The Egyptian border guards allowed the residents of Gaza and the Egyptians who found themselves in foreign territories to return, after which the previous order was established at the checkpoints, the Associated Press reports with reference to representatives of the Palestinian Hamas movement.

One and a half weeks ago, the militants of the Hamas movement blew up the border wall, after which thousands of inhabitants of the border Rafach poured through the resulting gaps in Egypt.

They began to bury food and fuel in Egyptian territory massively, since the humanitarian crisis caused by the blockade from Israel continues in the gas sector. Cairo immediately called on Hamas and the opposing movement of Fath, headed by the chairman of PNU Mahmoud Abbas, to negotiations on the settlement of the border crisis.

As a result, the Hamas movement, which controls the gas sector, agreed to the proposal of Egypt to close the border.

Today, the situation in the Palestinian autonomy will be the subject of discussion at the meeting of the Commissioner of the European Union on the foreign policy of Javier Solan with the Egyptian authorities. It is expected that during a two -day stay in Cairo Solan will meet with the Egyptian leaders and, in addition to the Palestinian issue, will discuss other Middle Eastern problems.

Recall also that Iran proposed his help in resolving this situation. At the end of January, the country's authorities proposed to Egypt "Cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians." The details of the Iranian proposal were not reported.
