Singapore was chosen the capital of the first youth Olympic Games 2010. According to ITAR-TASS, such a decision was made on Thursday following the results of voting at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. Moscow also claimed for the games.
According to Valery Vinogradov, deputy mayor in the Moscow government on inter -regional cooperation of mass communications and sports, Moscow had very good chances to win, as it has accumulated invaluable experience in conducting such competitions. "The most striking example of our capabilities can be called the first World Youth Games of 1998.
Then 7,000 athletes from 131 countries came to Moscow to participate in competitions in 15 sports. Games were visited by members of the IOC, headed by President Huan Antonio Samararanch, presidents, vice presidents of Nokov, and sports ministers. And their opinion was unanimous - such a grandiose -scale sporting event in scale and level of organization can only be comparable with the Olympiads, ”said Vinogradov.
After 1998, Moscow held the youth games of the CIS and Baltic countries in 2002, in 2003 the international games "Moscow - Uta" took place. “At the moment, we have a sufficient sports base,” Vinogradov said. He recalled that already “no analogues in Europe, the Sports Palace on the Khodynsky field, as well as the ultra -modern open skating center in Krylatsky and the palace for sports games, were added to the existing sports facilities of the capital.
