Medvedev gains 70 percent

First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is gaining 70.23 percent of the vote in the presidential election. The results obtained after the counting of 99.5 percent of the ballots, said the head of the Central Election Commission Vladimir Churov at the first final press conference after voting, RIA Novosti reports.

In second place is the candidate from the Communist Party of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov - 17.76 percent of the vote, in the third - the leader of the LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky with 9.37 percent. Self -nominated, head of the Democratic Party Andrei Bogdanov scored 1.29 percent of the vote.

The turnout, according to the Central Election Commission, amounted to 69.65 percent. “This is a good result exceeding the previous indicator,” Churov said. This is almost 6 percent higher than in the Duma elections in December.

The news agencies note that Medvedev set an absolute record in the presidential election in Russia, gaining 51.94 million votes. In 2004, Vladimir Putin, according to official figures, received 49.6 million. Putin Medvedev did not beat Putin's interest record: 71.31 percent of voters spoke out four years ago.

For Zyuganov, 13.1 million people voted in the current elections, 6.9 million for Zhirinovsky. Bogdanov supported 965 thousand voters, although for registration as a candidate he submitted two million signatures to the CEC.
