The number of victims of explosions in Albania reached 15 people. The Minister of Defense resigned

The Minister of Defense of Albania Fatmir Medium filed resigned on Monday. In connection with the Saturday tragedy in the weapon warehouse near Tirana, where, as a result of a series of explosions , according to the latest data, 15 people died and more than 250 were injured.

"My decision is dictated by ethics considerations, because I believe that I do not bear any personal responsibility in what happened," said the head of the country's Ministry of Defense. At the same time, he added that he was ready to make maximum efforts to support the investigation of the causes of the tragedy, begun by the prosecutor's office of the Albanian Republic, ITAR-TASS reports. The causes of explosions are currently not established.

- One version of the cause of the explosion is sabotage

On Monday, from under the wreckage of the exploding warehouse of ammunition, accumulated during the reign of dictator Enver Khoja and intended for destruction, the bodies of four more dead were extracted, after which the number of victims of this tragedy increased to 14 people, the Italian agency ANSA reported.

Later, on Monday, it became known that in the Italian hospital of the city of Brindizi, a woman died, who received severe injuries as a result of explosions in an arms warehouse in Albania. This was also reported by ANSA agency with reference to representatives of the hospital. Thus, the total number of those killed as a result of explosions increased to 15 people.

Together with the 47-year-old Albanka, another 10 people were injured in the hospital of the southern city of Brindizi, who were injured as a result of a tragedy in Albania. There is no information regarding their state of health yet. In total, as a result of explosions in Albania, more than 250 people were injured in varying severity, 11 wounded in critical condition were taken to the Italian hospital.

Another 10 people are considered missing. In total, 63 people in three teams, including several US troops, worked at the ammunition depot. It is people from these teams that are considered missing.

As a result of a series of explosions, 2300 buildings and knowledge suffered, 315 of them were completely destroyed.

Meanwhile, on Monday, several hundred manifestants from among the residents of the district affected by a series of powerful explosions were blocked by a local highway. They demand a meeting with representatives of the government, fearing that they will not receive the promised compensation. Demonstrators also hold banners with the calls of the immediate resignation of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Albania. At the site of the manifestation is the police to ensure security.
